IMPHAL, June 27: An indefinite bandh called by the JAC formed against the alleged killing of one Md Rafiuddin since 5am this morning has affected the Lilong stretch of the Imphal-Moreh national highway.

Vehicular traffic along the highway stretch was almost negligible while Inter district passenger vehicles remained off the road.

Shops, other business establishments and the Lilong Keithel remained closed for the day.

Meanwhile, around 11am, Lilong police fired several rounds of tear gas shells to disperse bandh supporters in the area.

It may be mentioned that supporters of the bandh had come to the street since early  morning blocking vehicular traffic along the highway stretch by burning tyres at different places along the Imphal Moreh road.

Around 11:30am, an ambulance of the Thoubal District Hospital carrying staff of the hospital which was coming towards Thoubal from Imphal side was stopped by bandh supporters and made to turn back from the Lillong Madrassa area.

Though police fired tear gas shells to disperse the supporters, there were no reports of any casualty till the filling of this report.

The JAC had called the indefinite bandh since 5am this morning against the failure of the state police department to punish the person who has been arrested by the police.

It may be mentioned that 32 year old Md Rafiuddin alias Nahayai, son of Maheijuudin  of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Kalikhong was found in an unconscious manner on the early morning of June 12 near the Konsam oil Pump Langthabal Kunja and later succumbed to his injury at RIMS on the same day.

He has gone out with one local Mujibur Rahaman to hire a vehicle to take his father to the hospital on the night the day before he was found unconscious and Mujibur Rahaman was arrested by the police on the same day Rafiuddin died.
