IMPHAL, June 15: The Janata Dal United has welcomed the state government’s reaffirming decision to urge the Centre for the reintroduction of ILP in Manipur while further demanding review of the law and order situation in the state.
Speaking to media persons at a press conference held today at the party’s office at Babupara, Janata Dal United Manipur State Council president M Tombi said, “90 percent of our state is hill settled by the 36 different tribes recognize by the government. To save the indigenous people of the state the implementation of Inner Line Permit is very much needed.”
“In the hill districts of the state, the influence of the non-local is very high, around 60 percent from the total population of the Hills district is non-Manipuris who have settled in the places doing business of different forms,” he said while appealing to the people of the hill districts to support the agitation of Inner Line Permit System demand.
He further said that the Janata Dal United welcomes the state government’s reaffirming decision at the ongoing Assembly session to pressure the Centre for the reintroduction ILP in the state.
He also said that various undergrounds, who have signed MoU with the state and the central government, are committing various unwanted crimes along the National Highways forcing money from the truck and bus drivers by beating and harassing them and even burning down their vehicles.
He urged the state government to deploy a Highway Protection Force along the highways at the earliest.
He further questioned the state government how it can claim that the law and order situation has improved when the state police personnel are found involved in various crimes in the state including rape, smuggling, stealing of vehicles etc.
He said that the proposed ‘all political party meeting for the common candidate for the upcoming parliament election comprising 13 political party on June 19’ has been postponed for some two three days due to certain unavoidable circumstances and that the meeting of all the political parties of the state will be held in two to three days-time to find the common candidate for the parliamentary election.
The meeting will also be participated by the Pangal Political forum (PPF), he added.
