IMPHAL, June 23: A team of four gunmen who identified themselves as members of a group Apunba Lup had tried to kidnap the Pradhan of Langathel Gram Panchayat of Thoubal district, Shah Mira, wife of Md Rousan Khan, with one of them who is a girl nabbed by the locals along with a gun
She was nabbed by locals who were alerted and came out on hearing gun-shots fired by the four while trying to make their escape.
The incident took place on Friday June 24 night at 11:30 pm at the Pradhan’s residence at Phundrei Makha Leikai.
A team of the 15 AR which is stationed near the locality came at the spot and after picking up the woman handed her over to the Kakching police station.
Later on, a meeting was held in this regard and resolved to take action against the culprits.
The girl kidnapper nabbed has been identified as Takhellambam Chanchan aged about 20 years.
The incident took place when a group of four persons including the nabbed girl was asking to meet Shah Mira saying that a woman related case should be discussed.
Responding to their question, Md Amir Khan, brother of Md Rousan Khan said that his sister in law as well as his brother was not at home at that time.
After that the visiting party asked him to go with them instead of her sister in law, however, Amir Khan responded that he could not go as he was not the Pradhan, saying so he went inside the home informing them to make phone call to his sister in law.
In the mean-time, his mother Khadi Jan and younger brother Mujamin who is a Manipur Riffle personnel met the visiting team for negotiation while he was alerting the local neighbor about the situation at his home. By doing so, local people were collected there soon.
On finding that the people had been alerted, the four tried to escape from the spot and fired a gun shot, however, Md Mujami nabbed one of them along with a bag in which a gun was found.
Amir Khan, husband of the Pradhan said that the girl was kept in the house.
While questioning her, the girl disclosed that they are the cadres of Apunda Lup and further disclosing the names of the escaped cadres and their plan to kidnap some other Pradhans also.
The identities so disclosed by Chanchan were one M Manao and Somorjit of Langathel Hingonung Leikai and one Sanatomba of Moreh.
Later on, 15 AR came and picked up Chanchan along with the gun and handed over to Kakching PS on the next day that is Saturdar.
Afterward, Md Amir Khan, husband of the Pradhan clarified that there was no prior threat or monetary demands from any armed outfit.
He however, said that that M Manao was the brother in law of the Member of Ward No. 4 of the same Gram Panchayat, M Inaobi Devi who has asked for some amount but was negotiated and had given to Member M Inaobi Devi.
In relation with this incident, a meeting was held at the residence of the Pradhan presided by Zila Parishad Member, Sh Budhi Singh. The meeting has resolved that ward no 4 member M Inaobi Devi and her husband Chaoba Singh were involved in the kidnapping incident; and further resolved to ask the higher authority to initiate legal action against the member of ward no. 4 while asking the gathering not to allow outsiders to enter and settle in the village after 8 pm and in case there is urgency in doing so, information should be given to Pradhan and ward member.
