IMPHAL, June 14: Mainland India discriminates people from North East including Manipur and it is a truth, Opposition leader Dr I Ibohalbi Singh said while raising a calling attention motion in the Manipur Legislative Assembly today.

The Opposition MLA drew the attention of the House in regard with the dead of a girl from Ukhrul who was found dead in a suspicious manner at her rented room in South Delhi.

The opposition leader said that the 21 year old girl  was found dead  on May 21. Her family member reported the incident at the nearest police station and urged the police to conduct a proper investigation into the case.

However, the officials of the concerned police station did not give proper attention to the family members and denied lodging an FIR saying she was a drug user and that she committed suicide, the opposition leader said.

Later, a case of suicide under IPC Section 306 was lodged, he maintained.

However, after an intervention by the Delhi Health & Family Welfare Minister, a murder case under IPC Section 302 was registered in regard to the incident, he said while adding that the post mortem examination of her dead body was conducted twice.

He maintained that the girl’s family members suspect the involvement of her house owner’s brother in the case.

The opposition leader questioned whether the state government has taken any steps to find out the actual cause of her death or whether the state government approached the Delhi police or Delhi government in regard with the case.

Answering the calling attention motion, Deputy CM Gaikhangam who also holds the home portfolio said that the state government is doing whatever needed to be done.

He further said that the government has every report in regard to the case and will consider what can be done to her family. The state government has extended its condolence through the media, he added.
