IMPHAL, June 28: Moving a show cause notice in the morning session on the 15th day of the 5th session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly on June 10, the state Deputy Chief Minister who also holds the Home portfolio said that protection measures for non-locals in and around Imphal have been intensified.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam moved the show cause notice during the session of the House which started from 11 am, as usual soon after the question and answer session and zero hour were over.
With the permission of Speaker Th Lokeshwar Singh, Deputy Chief Minister raised the motion in the House.
He said that a bomb explosion incident occurred in two rooms of a rented house at Uripok Tourangbam Leikai at around 7:50 pm yesterday.
Six persons including five non-locals sustained injuries in the incident. Two non-locals among the injured succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment. Three injured non-locals who were taken from RIMS to Shija Hospital are still undergoing medical treatment. Of them, the condition of a victim is critical, he had said.
A local man among the injured has been discharged as his condition is not serious, the Dy CM said.
A stringent investigation into the incident is being conducted under the supervision of Imphal West District police and a case was registered and taken up under FIR No. 164(6)2013 with regard to the incident, he said on the floor of the House.
Deputy Chief Minister further said in the House that the government strongly condemn such violent incidents, casualties of non-locals apart.
With regard to the incident, the house where the grenade was lobbed has been inspected by all concerned authorities including the local MLA he said, while adding that as the exploded bomb is said to be a Chinese hand grenade, an arduous investigation is on.
In the meanwhile, protection measures for non-locals in and around Imphal have been intensified, he noted.
