MSF volunteers arrested for locking up Health Directorate

IMPHAL, June 15: Four office bearers of the Manipuri Students’ Federation have been arrested by the state police for locking up the state Health Services Department with their demand of a proper clarification from the government regarding the calling off of the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur conducted state medical entrance test for MBBS/BDS.

The four arrested have been identified as President Longjam Umakanta, assistant finance S Develin; Keisham Romio and vice president Boinao.

The four were arrested this afternoon around 4:30pm from the student body’s office.

According to late reports received by IFP, it is learnt that the four were still in the lock-up.

Meanwhile, the student body has in a statement lamented the police action and said it is a cowardly action on the part of the state government.

It has said that the action to lock up the directorate was taken as the directorate had tried to mislead the general public specially the young medical aspirants of the state by calling off the test and further said that the student body had already informed the government and directorate about locking up the directorate.

The student body has also demanded the release of the four volunteers at the earliest without any terms and conditions.

On failure to release the student volunteers at the earliest, the student body will join hands with other like-minded organizations including CSOs and launched various forms of agitation, the statement said adding that the student body will continue to agitate until its demands are fulfilled.

The student body has also demanded that the state Health Services Director should resign from the post for misleading the general public under Indian Penal Code 406 & 420.
