IMPHAL, June 22: The All Manipur Students’ Parents’ Guardian Organization has today urged the state government to convert the Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary school into a co-ed instead of converting it into an all-girls school even as an official notification of the school to be a girl`s only institution was passed today.

Speaking to media persons at a press conference, spokesperson S Sumati said such a move will accommodate both boys and girls who failed to gain admission in other government schools.

The press conference was held at the office of the organization.

Speaking further she said, the government decision for an all-girls school has disturbed the education atmosphere of the school and further condemned the decision.

If the school is converted into an all girls’ higher secondary school, then the boys presently students of the school will all be scattered.

She alleged that the government has no proper policy or programs and is rather interested in only stop gap arrangement whenever an issue emerges in the state and this system should not apply in education field and added that politics should not interfere in the education sector.

Even after Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) was introduced in the state, the government has tried to keep classification between the boys and the girls, for which the government is trying to convert Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary into a girls’ Higher Secondary School, she continued.

She said instead of converting Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary into a girls’ Higher Secondary school, the government should instead convert the Bengali High School and Raja Dumbra Singh High School into girls schools for all streams after improving the required faculties and infrastructure.

This will reduce the problems of admission for girls, she continued.

Further, she said the step followed by All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturer Welfare Association is not ideal of a teachers’ body.

Meanwhile, further elaborating on the Medical Entrance Test cancellation in the state, she said there is no such Supreme Court directive as was cited by the state government for cancellation of the test.

She further said that the All Manipur Students` Parents` Guardian Organization will support all forms of agitation taken up by the students’ union of Ramlal Paul.
