`Passport office at Imphal soon`

IMPHAL, June 28: Replying to a question from MLA Dr I Ibohalbi Singh, Deputy CM Gaikhangam today said in the House that some credible officers are undergoing training outside the state on passport related activities and further mentioned that the problem of going outside the state for passport will soon be solved.

The Government of Manipur has acknowledged that the time and money of the public including MLAs and Ministers were exhausted in the process of trying to get a passport which compels one to visit the regional passport office at Guwahati, Assam, the Deputy CM said.

He further maintained that the Manipur govt has requested the concern Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India to set up a passport office at Imphal as is available in the neighbouring states.

The Imphal passport office would be established at Bapupara owing to the disadvantage to accommodate the office inside the secretariat office, he said.

One DTO to be opened at Tamenglong

Responding to a question from MLA Pamnei over the lack of a District Transport Office in Tamenglong which has created problems for the general public, state Transport Minister, Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh said in the House that as of now, there is no District Transport Office at Tamenglong district headquarters and further assured the House that a District Transport Office will soon be set up at the district headquarter.

Work order for Waikhong community hall cancelled

The Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said that a work order was given to secretary of Beneficiary Committee Waikhong amounting to Rs 9,20,810 for the construction of a community hall at Waikhong in the financial year 2009-10 but it was later cancelled. The Chief Minister made the above statement to a question asked by MLA M Kunjo Singh.

One veterinary hospital at Mekola

Answering to a question from MLA RK Anand Singh, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh who also holds the veterinary and animal husbandry portfolio said that there are nine veterinary district hospitals each one at Mekola, Yorbung, Bishnupur, Athokpam, Modikhul, Tuibong, Lukhambi, Greenland (Ukhrul) and Christian colony (Senapati).

Moreover, there is a government plan to set up a veterinary hospital in the 21 Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency at Mekola and its work progress is 70% completed.
