Police ward off mob violence with timely intervention

IMPHAL, June 10: Angered locals including the womenfolk of Thangmeiband Meisnam leikai today stormed the house of a `God man` who had allegedly threatened to take of the life of a man within five days and who was subsequently found hanging inside his room yesterday.

However, timely intervention of the police warded off any untoward incident.

The incident took place around 5.30 pm when a large number of angry womenfolk and club volunteers gathered at the locality of Laishram Manigopal, son of Ibempishak of Kwakeithel Thingom Leikai.

The mob alleged that Manigopal of taking the life of 46 year old S Bigyaneshore, son of Dwijamani of Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai with black magic.

Speaking to media-persons at the incident spot, womenfolk of the deceased family claimed that Bigyaneshore and his estranged wife Tamphasana were staying separated for the past one year.

Tamphasana was staying at her parental home since then, the family members claimed and said that Bigyaneshore had gone to Tamphasana’s parental house to ask his wife to join him and their daughter in a felicitation programme of their daughter who had secured first division in the recently declared HSLC examination.

They continued that Bigyaneshore found her performing a ritual at the God-man’s place and when he ask her to go along with him, his wife didn’t respond and continued to ignore him, however the God-man had allegedly threatened him that he will take his life within five days.

Later he was found hanging on the fifth day, the family members claimed.
