IMPHAL, June 11: Rabi School of Nursing located at Ghari, Imphal was closed by the Manipur government in 2012 and the public should not try to gain admission at the Institute.

This was stated by Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing in connection with the calling attention motion on the Institute put forward by Opposition MLA Th Shyamkumar Singh.

The Minister further said that Rabi School of Nursing was set up at Ningthoukhong at first. Later, the institute was shifted to Sangaiprou and now it is housed in the rented apartment of a house located at Ghari, he said.

Setting up of Nursing Institute in Manipur requires a no objection certificate (NOC) of the Manipur state government and approval of Indian Nursing Council (INC), he said and added that the Director or officials of the concerned health department cannot issue NOC of the Manipur government.

An inspection team will inspect the conditions of the institute which is set to be established.

If the team submits the report that they are satisfied, NOC will be issued but the said institute was found having only seven students during the inspection, he said.

However the institute had the permission of Assam Nursing Council, he continued.

The department sent a show cause notice but the response was not received following which, the government closed the institute, he continued.

An official notification with regard to the matter will be issued in one or two days, the Minister said.

On the other hand, a nursing institute of the state government was set up at Lamphel and has been put into operation, he continued. The official inauguration ceremony of the institute will be held at the earliest.

The institute, the first of its kind in the state was set up with the permission of INC, the Health Minister said in the House.

However, the Minister said that he would see what can be done by finding out the truth with regard to the calling attention motion raised by opposition MLA Th Shyamkumar Singh in the House on the government’s refusal to receive the forms submitted by students who passed from IGNOU and NIOS for some posts of ANM/GNM by the Manipur government.
