IMPHAL, June 22: Amidst much objection from several section of the society including students of the Ramlal Higher Secondary School, the state government has converted it to an all girls’ higher secondary school.
As per order No. 19 of 2013 issued by H. Mathang, Deputy Secretary (Edn/S), government of Manipur; Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School has been converted to Ram Lal Paul Girls’ Higher Secondary School with immediate effect.
With regard to the order, Education Minister M. Okendra Singh said that the government has taken up the step inorder to incorporate demands of girl students for education and said all girl students who will be admitted at the newly converted Ram Lal Paul Girls’ Hr. Sec. School have secured above 61% of marks and most of the teachers at the school are lady teachers.
In the previous session, a large number of students were admitted in TG Hr. Sec. School and it caused inconveniences to the school regarding provision of infrastructures and laboratory facilities , he said.
This year too, over 2000 students applied for admission but only 750 students will be admitted in the school.
When asked where the present boy students of the Ramlal Paul Hr Sc school will be accommodated, Education Minister, M Okendro said that as they are all boys, students of lower classes will be transferred to nearby schools whereas students of classes XI and XII will be accommodated at Johnston Hr. Sec. School.
