“Reported incident of MLA carrying away injured Kuki UG cadre defames House”

IMPHAL, June 25: As per the news item on Information Service Television Network (ISTV) on June 22 and in local dailies the next day, a member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly took a cadre of Kuki UG who was being admitted at a hospital located at Dewlaland as the cadre sustained gunshot injuries.

It has defamed the House, observed MLA Nongthombam Biren singh of Heingang constituency taking advantage of zero hour soon after the question answer business of Manipur Legislative Assembly concluded and before the next business was initiated.

Drawing the attention of the House, MLA N. Biren Singh said that the Kuki UG cadre was injured during an exchange of fire with Assam Rifles. AR tried to arrest him and AR which ran after him to arrest informed the concerned police that he was admitted at the hospital for treatment following which police came, he pointed out before adding that police told the doctors at the hospital to inform them when the injured cadre was about to be discharged and left the hospital instead of keeping him under their guard. Then a member of this House took him, he informed. Subsequently, AR will not respect the members of House and police who did not discharge their duties properly also will not respect us, he observed and went on to say that it was the incident which defamed the House.

The MLA further observed that mixing two different things is not feasible and one should stick to only one thing at a time.

He said that a thorough investigation should be conducted into the incident.

On the other hand, if the statement made by United Naga Council, (UNC) that six cadres of NSCN – K were killed by AR who took the law in their own hands after being called out is true, the matter should be looked into, he added.

Taking advantage of zero hour, MLA Nungklung Victor of Chandel (ST) constituency observed that the incident wherein 10 AR killed six cadres of NSCN-K after being summoned will set a precedent.

Cadres who were arrested after being summoned come to seven in total. It is learnt that six were killed and one who is alive is in their custody, he said and added that if he comes out, some truth will come to light on the floor of the House.

Taking advantage of Zero hour, he drew the attention of the House on Transporters’ matter that vehicles will remain off the road from July 2 if demands of transporters’ Association are fulfilled within July 1 on which the ongoing session will conclude.
