KOHIMA, Jun 18 (NEPS): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio was reported to have talked to his Assam counterpart Tarun Gogoi on the current border issue facing two states. It was learnt that the two Chief Ministers took the border issues very seriously and shared their thoughts and minds as to how current border tense be brought down to normalcy at the earliest. The two also stressed the need to have further talks to find “lasting and amicable” solution to the border issues facing the two states.
It may be mentioned that when a Group of Ministers (GoMs) led by Home Minister G Kaito Aye met the Ao Senden at DC Conference Hall, Mokokchung on June 12 had also given assurance that the “boundary dispute matter would be taken up at the highest level, i.e., Chief Minister, Nagaland to Chief Minister, Assam.”
While talking to NEPS at his office chamber on Monday, the Home Minister confirmed that the Chief Minister of Nagaland had already talked to his Assam counterpart on the current border issue. The two Chief Ministers of Assam and Nagaland took the border issues very seriously and wanting to find lasting solution to it, he added.
While expressing his happiness on the reported sharing of thoughts and minds on the current border issues by two Chief Ministers of Assam and Nagaland, the Home Minister disclosed that during their talk, the two Chief Ministers had agreed to have further talks on the border issues. “However, the venue and time of their meetings is yet to be fixed,” he said while describing the development as “positive.”
Kaito also stated that there would meetings with the Mediators for Assam-Nagaland Boarder Area on June 21 and 22 this week. “We are yet to receive the details of the venue and the time of the meeting,” the Home Minister said.
