IMPHAL, June 15: Around 5, 000 saplings were planted with the help of the local MLA, District Forest and Horticulture Departments at various places such as Tekcham, Papal and Langthabal under GP in connection World Environment Day” organised by Tekcham Gram Panchayat Development Committee, Wangjing Tentha Kendra today.
Speaking at the tree plantation prograame, MLA Paonam Brojen said that man and othe living creatures will not be able to live without trees and deforestation led to the ecological imbalance that it is too hot in Summer and it is too cold in winter.Recently in the night of the last winter, people in Manipur suffered in an unprecedented way as it was cloudy too much and it was a sign of the ecological balance, he pointed out.
He continued that all the people should take the responsibility for saving environment instead of holding the forest environment responsible.
Stating that it was an easy task to plant saplings, but the difficulty was to make them grow completely, he appealed to the people who planted saplings to try to make them grow by looking after them and added that if not, saplings might be planted at the same place again.
He further said that 10 persons who are able to make the saplings grow will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 10, 000 each at such tree plantation programme in 2015 with the rate of growing plants being estimated and added that he would make efforts to take up tree plantation programmes all over the Wangjing Tentha constituency and he applauded the District Forest and Horticulture Department, Thoubal which donated saplings which had been plated today.
Kh. Shyam, DFO. Thoubal, L. Upendro, DO ( Hort. And Soil Conservation), Thoubal, local leaders, Meira Paibis and women committee members under Tekcham GP participated in the programme.
