Schools with zero pass percentage will be dealt with, says Minister

IMPHAL, June 6: The total successful students in the recently declared High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLC) conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) is 24, 274, while the pass percentage of students this year exceeded the pass percentage of the previous year, 84 government schools had failed to sponsor a single student to appear the examination, while the pass percentage of 28 other schools was nil.

The statistics was provided by the state Education Minister M Okendro today while announcing that befitting actions will be taken up against the said schools with zero pass percentage.

He was addressing media persons during a press conference held at his office chamber at the New Secretariat.

He said that there are 34 Higher Secondary Schools under the Manipur government however after five High Schools were recently upgraded to the higher secondary levels, the total number of higher secondary schools is 39 in the state, he said.

Certain schools attract more students amongst the government run Higher Secondary Schools in the state, he said citing that more than 2800 admission forms have already been collected from Tamphasana Girls’ Higher Secondary Schools located in the heart of Imphal.

But when all of them are allowed to study in the particular school, there are 100-200 students in a class following which teachers will face problems caused by the overcrowding, the Minister said.

Efforts will be made for other higher secondary schools to be provided with teachers and infrastructures equal to that of TG Higher Secondary School so as to teach students numbering about 500-600 in a school, the Minister said.

Students will be made to study at Ram Lal Paul Hr Secondary School, Lamlong Hr Sec School, Ibontonsana Hr Sec School, Lamlong Hr Sec School, CC Hr Sec School etc under this policy and hostel facilities will be provided if the schools do not have the facilities, the Minister announced.

Award of incentives to the schools which produce good students is in the pipeline, he said.

On the other hand, there are government model schools in every district including two model schools in Senapati district, the education Minister said and added high schools were converted to model schools, conversion of some higher secondary schools to model Hr Sec Schools, likewise, is in the pipeline.

Education Minister M. Okendro also informed that the government is going all out so as to enable schools maintaining quality to produce good students further.
