IMPHAL, June 16: A felicitation function for twelve selected persons from different walks of life was held during the 4th biennial (8th annual) general body meeting of Senior Citizens for Society Manipur (SCSM) being held at Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU), Imphal at 10 am.
Today’s function was presided over by 90 year old N Binoy Singh, President of the Society.
Four selected persons belonging to four communities of the state and were felicitated on the theme of Integrity as the main part of the function. The four persons who were felicitated are Chungkhkai Doungel, ex- Minister, Abungbam Kabui, 85, Ex pradan guru of JNMDA, Laljam Begum, 75, ex-Principal of GP Women’s college and Member of Manipur State Commission for Woman of Muslim Community and Elangbam Sonamani Singh, Sahitya Academy Awardee.
Film Maker Aribam Shyam Sharma, Ratan Thiyam (theatre), Dr. Jodhchandra Sanasam, Sahitya Academy Award winner, Khetri Bira of Kakching and RK Bidur, Film Critic were also felicitated for achieving fame in their own fields.
RV Mingthing, ex-Minister, 85, Lt. Col. Kiyam Achouba Singh (Retd.) and Nandakishwor of Lalambung Makhong of the society were also felicitated in acknowledgment of their contribution to activities of SCSM.
As part of the function a Newsletter of the society entitled “The Voice of senior citizens” published every six months was released. The society was reorganised with a vice-President and Executive members of the society being changed and appointed. Five different resolutions including that of condolence were adopted.
