IMPHAL, June 17: Womenfolk of the Golapati Maning leikai today staged a sit in protest against the alleged killing of Amubi by her husband Md Abdul Halim on June 14 at around 6 pm.

Today’s sit in protest was organised by the Domestic Violence Survival forum at Golapati Maning Leikai.

Speaking to media persons at the sideline of the protest, Thoibi, a worker of the Domestic violence survival forum said that crimes against women in the state is increasing day by day and the state government is responsible for all the crimes against women because till today the state government has failed to befittingly punish the persons who commit such crimes against the women in the state.

She further said that among the 60 MLAs of the state there are three women MLAs and among them, one is holding a post of Minister but it is very unfortunate that till today none of the 3 MLAs have raised their voice against the crime against women, even though the women society of the state expects actions from them on the issue.

She further appealed to the state concerned authority to properly check the credentials of any individual before issuing gun license.

She further appealed to the 60 MLAs of the state to discuss the issue at the House during the ongoing session and pass a policy against such crimes.

The forum will launched several agitations from July 1 in case of failure on the part of the MLAs to take up the issue before the House.
