IMPHAL, June 26: A 2nd semester student of the Community Polytechnic, Takyel was found to have hanged herself to death from the ceiling fan inside her hostel room today at around 9.30 am.
The deceased has been identified as Jakriti Dewanger (20), daughter of Keshor Dev of Chhattisgarh.
According to the staff of the polytechnic, a staff member went to check her at her room after she failed to turned up for her examination today.
The staff knocked at her door but on failing to get any response, the staff peeped through a hole on the door and saw her hanging from the ceiling fan.
Later, a team of Lamphel police came and collected the dead body after an inquest and deposited it at the RIMS morgue for post mortem. According to the warden, Chandralekha, the deceased had returned back from her holidays recently to give her back paper examination. She seemed upset as she had failed in some papers. After she came back to the hostel, she was not having food properly and often keept to herself in the hostel and today morning she was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room, the warden added.
Meanwhile, Lamphel police have taken up a case regarding the incident.
