KANGPOKPI, June 17: Though there is no report of any untoward incident, the United Naga Council 48hrs total bandh has been densely effective in peaceful manner along NH-2 in Naga areas with a total shutdown of vehicular movement along the highway and shutters of all business establishments completely down today.
On the other hand, vehicular movement and business establishments operated as usual in other parts of the areas without any disturbances from the purview of the bandh.
The UNC bandh was effective at Ningthoupham areas via Mayangkhang, Senapati, Maram and Mao. No vehicles were seen passing through the highway that passed through these areas and no business establishments opened thereby making the areas densely deserted. Even all educational institutions in the areas were all closed.
Some stranded passengers walked by foot from Mao to Senapati which is a distances of approximately 50 Km.
One CISF personnel among the stranded passengers told this correspondent at Kangpokpi that, along with one CRPF and another Assam Regiment personnel,they were heading to their respective native places on holiday. We have very limited days. On the way, he said they met with four other youths who came to Dimapur for verification of documents for the final stage of recruitment to the Assam Regiment. They were sent back to acquired some more documents which they have to submit within 2/3 days.
He further narrated that, when there was no other way out, they started their long walk by 4 am in the morning from Mao toll gate. They reached Senapati at around 4:30 pm where they met the ROP of 43 Assam Rifles who dropped them upto Kangpokpi.
Mention may be made that, in purview of the UNC 48hrs total bandh in Naga areas, all concerned Police Station along the NH-2 stopped many vehicles coming from Imphal side or heading towards Imphal from 7 pm onwards to avoid unnecessary untowards incident due to the bandh as per the orders from the higher authority.
