LAMKA, June 24: The Information and Publicity Wing of the United Peoples Front (UPF) today issued a press clarification on the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) statement which appeared in some daily newspaper dated June 24 saying that the Tribal People Organization of Manipur was formed in connivance with the NSCN (IM) as totally baseless.

The UPF statement said that the UPF is not a party of the new organization and was not consulted when it was formed and as such, the KNO statement is factually incorrect, concocted and baseless.

The clarification continued that the UPF is an issue based political alliance sans nomenclature, and that UPF had never adopted an exclusivist political demand for a separate Kuki Land or Nagalim since its inception and reaffirmed that UPF stand for the right and political aspiration of the Tribal in Manipur.

It continued, “The political demand of UPF under article 244-A of the Indian Constitution that is ‘’Autonomous Hill State or a State within a State” encompassing the entire tribal people or even the non-tribal who had resided in the Hill areas”.
