UPRF cadre arrested

IMPHAL, June 28: A combined team of the 40th Assam Rifles Lilong Post and Lilong Police arrested a cadre of militant outfit United People Revolutionary Front along with a USA made pistol along with four rounds of bullet and Rs 19,500 in cash from near the Kaleikhong Bridge under Lilong Police Station yesterday around 8pm yesterday.

The Lilong Police today paraded the arrested militant cadre identified as Md Shahid Ichan alias Teli (37), son of Alhaj Barkartulla of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Kaleikhong along with the seized items before media persons today.

Speaking to the media person, Sub Inspector Jugol, 2nd Officer In Charge of the Lilong Police station said that yesterday at around 7:30 pm, a combined team of Lilong police and 40 Assam Rifle Lilong post went to the Lilong Kaleikhong area on getting specific information about the presence of some armed miscreants with the motive of monetary extortion from the general public.

He further said that when the combined team reach the area a suspect tried to run away on seeing the security team approaching towards.

Further elaborating on, the SI said, that on being chased the suspect tried to shot at the team, however, his bullet got lodged in his pistol chamber.

He was arrested after a few minutes of chasing around 8pm, the SI said.

He continued that during interrogation, the arrested person has revealed that he used to work for the militant outfit PULF as an over ground activist before he joined UPRF some years back.

The arrested person was later produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Thoubal under the FIR number 53(6)2013 U/S 16/17/20 UA (P) Act and 25(I-C) A act this noon.
