IMPHAL, July 26 (NNN): The Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed in Imphal on Friday to honour the Kargil war heroes.
State Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, PHED minister I Hemochandra, Chief Secretary DS Poonia and other top officials attended the glittering function held at the Secretariat South Block to mark the day.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister Ibobi called for a firm stand to one and all to safeguard the oneness and freedom of the country and to pay rich tribute to the Kargil War heroes who had died martyred for their motherland.
On this day, July 26, 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistani intruders. The Kargil War was fought for more than 60 days, ended on July 26 and resulted in the loss of life on both sides, India and Pakistan. Pakistan retreated after international diplomatic pressure.
Meanwhile, The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Manipur Pradesh today observed the ‘’Kargil Vijay Diwas’’ by offering floral tributes to the martyrs of the Kargil War led by its president Th Chaoba Singh and former president Meinam Bhorot along with other party leaders and members of the party at its party’s office.
Addressing media persons at its head office located at Nityapat Chuthek, Th Chaoba spoke at length about the Kargil war and jawans who had sacrificed their lives at the war saying that out of the 532 jawans who sacrificed their lives at the war, seven jawans were from Manipur.
M Bhorot informed that the Kargil War had occurred during the NDA Government at the centre between June and July, 1999 and that the war ended with a victory on July 26.
He further said that the victory was regarded as a historic and heroic event that took place during the tenure of the NDA Government.
A two minute silence was also observed in respect of the martyrs of the Kargil War during the observance.
Meanwhile, the ADC Office Jiribam also observed the ‘’Kargil Vijay Diwas’’ at the conference hall of the ADC around 11 am.
The oservence was attended by ADC Y. Iboyaima Singh, Addl SP O. Menjor Singh MPS and SDC David along with staffs of the department and public.
