`Four arrested IRB stand suspended`

LAMKA, July 1: Mob control action of the CCpur Police in front of the CCPur Police station last night left a dozen of people injured with one amongst them stated to be in a serious condition, while another five have been admitted at the district hospital.

The mob had surrounded the police station till late in the night demanding the custody of the four IRB personnel who had alleged videotaped a woman and her male friend in a `compromising situation` in the vicinity of the Khuga Dam area.

The four were arrested by the police based on a complaint filed by a social activist of the area.

One of the six admitted at the district hospital, one person identified as Lunminsiam Guite (20), son of Liankhopau Guite of Zenhang Lamka has been taken to Imphal for further treatment as a bullet had penetrated his waist and as his condition is stated to be serious.

Meanwhile, cautioned by the public upheaval and subsequent police firing of tear gas shells, following the Khuga Dam incident, ADCC Chairman Langkhanpau Guite called a meeting at his office today attended by district officials and leaders of student bodies, civil bodies.

During the meeting it was resolved to request the state government to provide some assistance to the injured during last night`s police action.

The meeting had also condemned the incident in the strongest term and expressed that though they feel and care for the four IRB, they at the same time feel strongly against their actions.

The DC Maniram Sharma who was also attended the function said that the CCPur district administration will do what it can to help the injured.

The meeting further expressed its appreciation to the district SP Mangkhogin Haokip for the arrest of the four IRB personnel.

The Chairmen ADCC also told the media  that the issue was raised at the State Assembly today by Minister Phungzathang Tonsing and as a result, the four IRB personnel have been suspended from their service and the termination of their service is still pursued and is  likely to happen.

“The victim of the Khuga Dam incident will be given help as far as possible“ said the ADCC Chairmperson.

The meeting also resolved to request /asked the security  force present in the district, particularly the Assam Riffle to patrol the town area to prevent any untoward incident  as many people are still upset.
