IMPHAL, July 26: The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) has strongly condemned the high handedness of the 24th Assam Rifles meted out to two students namely David Lhungdim (Moreh College) and Manasheh Vaiphei (JNV Chandel) during a routine check up at Khudengthabi on July 19 last.
A statement issued by L. Zou, Information and Publicity of KSO stated that the two students along with other travelers were apprehended after the 24th AR personnel found few arms and ammunition from the vehicle they were travelling.
It further said that the two students had produced their students’ Identity Cards to confirm that they were both college students adding that the other passengers and the driver pleaded with the AR personnel to free the two students but the personnel chose to ignore their pleas and the two students were forcefully made to sign a statement that said they were both militants.
While demanding the AR officials to produce documents which can prove that the two students are from a militant outfit, the students’ union said it is unfortunate that those who are deployed to safeguard the nation, the State, the people and those who claim to be the ‘’’friends of the hills’’ have no concern whatsoever for the innocent civilians especially the students who are the future of the society.
Regarding the matter, the KSO Moreh Block executive members had asked to meet with Major Hemanshu Saoly of the AR unit but all the pleas fell on deaf ears.
