JIRIBAM, July 28: Around 600 trucks loaded with petrol, diesel, kerosene, LPG, cement and other essential commodities and presently stranded along National Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road), will be leaving Jiribam for Imphal tomorrow with escorts, Addl SP O Menjor Singh informed the media today.
However, as the number of loaded trucks arriving to Jiribam for other parts of Assam keeps on increasing, the number of trucks leaving for Imphal could reach around 700, he said.
Meanwhile, a standby driver of a Tata truck bearing registration number MNO-5C-0817 died after he fell from the top of his truck at Leingangpokpi last night.
He was trying to tie the goods loaded on his truck when he accidentally slipped and fell on the road. He succumbed to his injuries at CHC, Jiribam at around 11 pm yesterday, his companions informed.
The deceased has been identified as Ingodam Amarjit Sigh (23), son of I Ibohal Singh, of Bamdiar village under Nambol PS.
On hearing about the news, representatives of the All Jiribam Road Transport Drivers’ Union extended a monetary help of Rs 1000 to the co-driver Kh Hemanta Singh.
