Manipur Shillang Loumee Lup organizes All India Demands Day

IMPHAL, July 16: As part of the Bharatiya Khet Mazdoor Union’s “All India Demands Day”, The Manipur Shillang Loumee Lup today held a public discussion at Manipur Press Club.

Even though the day is observed with a nation-wide general strike called by the Bharatiya Khet Mazdoor Union, considering the frequent bandhs and general strike imposed in the state, a public discussion has replaced the general strike in the state, said Dr M Nara Singh.

He said that the farmers are an important part of the society.

Today’s observation has been organized against the failure of the society to recognize the farmers.

He continued that price hike in petrol; diesel and other fuels are only for the benefit of the rice.

For better society the both poor and rich should join hands and work together, he said.

Ex Minister N Mangi Singh addressed that the central government had sanctioned 42,000 crore under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for this year alone.

He further said in this corrupted society the public votes have been bought by the representative only dirtying the government.

The committee demanded the enactment of Khet Mazdoor pension Act of Rs.3000 from the age of 55, to provide 200 working days and to provide Rs. 300 under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA), Rs. 3 lakh under Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) and 15 decimal land for house sites and to set up Agricultural Workers Welfare Board in all the states.

The meeting has decided for the implementation of land reforms Laws and enactment of comprehensive central legislature, 35 kegs’ of Rice, Wheat at the cost of Re.1 every month, demand to control price hike in essential commodities.
