IMPHAL, July 25: The Mapithel Dam Affected Villages Organisation (MDAVO) has vehemently oppossed the announcement of the SDO, Phungyar on house-hold Verification drive at Chadong village on July 23 evening and its decision to continue on July 29-30, 2013 where the SDO had stated that the drive would be the last chance for the villagers to be verified.
In a statement, the MDAVO termed the move of the SDO as taking a last dart to completely shatter the High Court`s Stay Order which was previously tramped by the DC, Ukhrul.
It said that this is not the first time that the organisation has been objecting the house-hold verification process as it suppresses the rights and aspirations of the project affected villages as a whole adding that each time under militarization, the forceful verification have been carrying out.
Furthermore, the organisation said such process has violated the High Court`s Stay
Order which was served on April 25, 2013.
“Is it really the duty of a government’s servant to suppress the rights and aspirations of the ordinary citizens”? And if this move is a democratic as claimed by the DC, UkhruI time and again, “Is breaching of Court`s Order and creating social turmoil among the citizens still a democratic provision?”, it questioned.
The organisation further requested to all the right thinking citizens of the State to unitedly counter the suppression of poor tribal people’s rights and violation of Judiciary’s order of the state.
