NEDF, United NGOs draws attention on Tipatmuk Dam

IMPHAL, July 7: North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF) has today issued a press release on the issue of controversial Tipaimuk Dam adding that on July 11-12, 2013 the Advisory Committee, Forest and Environment, Ministry of Environment, Govt. of India, New Delhi is deciding to provide the Environmental Clearance to allow the construction of the Dam.

The press release further drew attention of the Chief Minister, Governor and Prime Minister of India to understand why the construction Lower Suban Sri dam is stop following an Expert Committee recommendation from Guwahati University, Dibrugarh and IIT Guwahati recommended and further mentioning the recommendation by the Committee of the Assam Legislative Assembly with strong comment that construction of Lower Suban Sri Dam should be stopped because of the negative impact of the dam while requesting CM of Manipur for an exposure visit to the Lower Suban Sri Dam site at Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, it said.

Narrating the experience of Loktak project, it further said that the people of Manipur have extremely suffered from the impact of Loktak project as more than eighty thousand Hectares of paddy fields are under water and farmers are paying the tax as well for the same.

The press release further urged the Govt of India to review the decision to construct of Tipaimukh Dam while requesting not to destruct Manipur as people of Manipur have enough experience through Loktak Hydro Power Project and asking the interest of the Govt of India in Tipaimuk dam, it said.
