KANGPOKPI, July 6: Sadar Hills is all set to intensely endorse the Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) decision to resume and intensify its stir by imposing general strike and economic blockade from 5 am of July 8 to 5 pm of July 9 and subsequently followed by an economic blockade stir till 5 pm of July 11 along the National Highway 2 within Sadar Hills.
Convenor of KSDC Sadar Hills, Chonkam Kipgen, who is also the chairman of Kangpokpi Town Committee, while speaking to this IFP correspondent today at Kangpokpi said, “The proposed general strike and economic blockade by Kuki State Demand Committee to put more pressure on the Government for a peaceful solution for the Kuki community will be intensely endorsed along the National Highway 2 within Sadar Hills”.
Chonkam noted that,”Except media/press and medical related activities, which is exempted by the committee from the purview of the stir, all others activities like business establishments, Govt and private run educational institutions as well as all Govt offices within Sadar Hills will be bunged during the agitations”.
He also said, “Movement of all types of vehicles, mainly those transporting economics bits and pieces, would be barred during the economic blockade on National Highway connecting the state capital Imphal and the life line of the state that passed through Sadar Hills from 5 pm of July 9 to till 5 pm of July 11 as part of the endorsement of the KSDC stir”.
Recounting repeated failure on the part of the Government on several Kuki community issue, Chonkam Kipgen averred, “All village chiefs along National Highway 2 within Sadar Hills numbering about 50 recently held a meeting at Kangpokpi town where all the chiefs decided and unanimously resolved to powerfully endorse the proposed KSDC general and economic blockade along the life line of the state within Sadar Hills”, adding that all the assembled chiefs also consented to chalk out the best effective activities to enforce the agitation during the endorsement of the said stir.
Chonkam Kipgen, the convenor and J Guite, secretary of the KSDC Sadar Hills Committee, who also hold the vice chairman post in Kangpokpi Town Committee, further warned every individual including businessman, headmasters/headmistress, principal, head of concerned government offices as well as drivers and bus owners or association, etc. not to infringe any of the committee decision during the course of KSDC stir endorsement within Sadar Hills or else bear all responsibilities if any untoward incidents arise out of their violation.
They also appealed to all like-minded individuals, social organizations, well-wishers, supporters to support the endorsement of KSDC general strike and economic blockade for the cause of the Kuki community.
