AMSU nabs two while extorting money in its name

IMPHAL, August 2: Two persons were nabbed today by volunteers of the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) for demanding and collecting money in the name of AMSU from Nambol area around 10:30 am, following which a press conference was held at AMSU headquarter office, DM college campus.

The two were also produced before the media persons.

Speaking to the media persons, AMSU president, Thiyam Naresh said that Paikhomba Oinam (24), son of Manibabu Oinam of Thoubal Mayai Leikai and Ningthoujam Surchandra (29), son of Ningthoujam Nimai Singh together took a sum of five thousand from Ngangom Sanjit Singh, the owner of Corner cafe at Nambol, in the name of AMSU a few days back.

He said that today again, Paikhomba Oinam demanded Rs 15 thousand from the same person and threatened to kill the said if the demand was not fulfilled.

The president of AMSU also said that Paokhomba Oinam has already been in jail for 15 days and was also a member of an underground organization.

He continued that a complaint had already been made with the Nambol Police about the matter, however the police has totally neglected the issue compelling the volunteers of the student body to take up the law in their own hands.

He also informed that the two are habitual drugs abusers and after a prolonged meeting with the student body, they were handed over to the family members.
