Bomb attack against people`s wishes: Cabinet

IMPHAL, August 12: The state cabinet meeting held this afternoon presided by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has strongly condemned the bomb attack at the gate of CM’s Bungalow on August 10 terming it as an act against the peace loving people of the state.      

This was stated by state government’s spokesperson Education Minister M Okendra Singh speaking to the media at his office chamber after the cabinet meeting.

The Okram Ibobi led government of the state considering the wishes of the people, is trying to initiate peace talks with the underground groups and some groups have even come out to live a normal life and had signed the suspension of operation (SoO) agreement, he said.

The law and order situation in the state is improving slowly considering the earlier days. At this juncture, carrying out a bomb attack at the gate of the CM Bungalow is against the wishes of the people of the state and it should be condemned by all, the Minister said.

He further said that the today’s meeting has also resolved to beef up security to avoid such incidents in the future.

The present tripartite SoO agreement with the UG groups has been urged to be be re-strengthened with adherence to the ground rules and was discussed at the meeting.

It was also resolved to bring a proper monitoring of the UG groups who are currently in suspension of operation and to house them at the designated camps to avoid unwanted incidents. The UG cadres will be allowed to leave their designated camps only after seeking permission from the concerned authority, he added.
