IMPHAL, August 7: The Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) representatives today met Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh at his office chamber over their demand to grant ‘revenue district’ status to Jiribam which is now a sub division in Imphal East district.

JDDC representatives including its advisors H Joykumar and L Jamini Kanta, president H Memma Devi, vice president S Sushila Devi and convenor Mutum Maipaksana Mangang represented the committee in the meeting with the CM which continued from 4:30 pm to 5 pm today.

The Chief Minister was assisted by Revenue, Forest and Law Minister Thoudam Devendro Singh who is also the MLA of Jiribam Assembly Constituency at the meeting.

After the meeting, JDDC convenor Mutum Maipaksana Mangang speaking to this reporter said that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the state government and JDDC in November 9, 2011.

The 11 points demand placed by the committee included granting sub-division status to Barak Circle in Jiribam.

For this particular demand, the CM has given his assurance that a decision will be made in the cabinet meeting which will be held in the coming two or three days, the convenor said.

The CM also gave his assurance that other demands which were agreed upon during the course of signing the MoU will be turn into action at the earliest, he said.

However, in the 11 point demand of JDDC the first point is demand for granting revenue district status to Jiribam. A memorandum was re-submitted demanding the same to the CM during the meeting today, he said.

The convenor said that after reaching Jiribam they will convene a meeting with the people to inform them about the meeting with the CM and further course of action will be taken accordingly.
