IMPHAL, August 10: MPCC secretary Jyotin Waikhom and Trinamool congress MLA Kh Joykishan debated over the developmental works taken up at Thangmeiband constituency hurling allegations and counter allegations at the other. The heated discussion took place at Namthanlong (Mujikhul) community hall today morning.

The meeting was attended by the Namthanlong Thoubei  (village elders) , representatives of Namthanlong Youth Club along with Jyotin and Joykishan. The agenda was Jyotin Waikhom seeking clarification regarding an allegation made against him by Namthanlong club. It was advertised earlier in the local media that Jyotin  had misappropriated funds for a particular developmental works costing around 5 lakhs by the said club. Jyotin had sought clarification from the concerned and the meeting was held to bring about a resolution on the issue.

During the meeting, Jyotin mentioned that his name had been dragged unneccessarily without substantiating facts and demanded an apology from the club members. He said that it is true that he had requested the works minister to include five developmental works during the term of 2012-2013 of which three were sanctioned. He then went on to say that the said works were again blocked by MLA Joykishan and deputed his own works instead of the mentioned. He stated that works are carried out following a process from the PWD and that is official. The charges can be alleged to the concerned contractor or the engineers but not to him. In the regard, he drew the attention of the gathering by stating that he will drop his political ambition and Congress office if the allegations made against him are proved by the club.

MLA Joykishan also mentioned that it was true that he blocked the works as it was not mandatory and there was no need to augment the roads which were already blacktopped. He also hurled allegations that out of 20 Anganwadi centres sanctioned for the constituency, only 4 have been constructed till date.

This matter was also brushed aside by Jyotin stating that he is not the concerned contractor and the matter should be pursued by the MLA to the concerned department. Stressing his point and clarification of his name, Jyotin warned the club officials that unless a formal apology is tendered, he will file a defamatory suit. The club members were also not able to substantiate their allegation and requested Jyotin to give them 2 days time for giving their decision.
