DM college students boycott Minister M Okendro

IMPHAL, August 5: Students of the three streams of the Dhanamanjuri College have decided to leave enmasse from the 67th Foundation day of the college if the state Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro attends the function.

The student unions of the three colleges announced their decision to boycott the Minister for failing to commit to the promises he had made earlier regarding development of the colleges.

Speaking to the media persons, at the Manipur Press Club today, convenor of the Joint Committee of DM College Students’ Union E Sobhamani said that the college authorities should not invite the state Education Minister to any functions of the college; and if he is invited than the students will continue to stay away from such functions, he added.

He said the Minister has failed to carry out his promises of conducting demarcation of boundary and evacuate land encroachers from the college premises.

He had even signed a memorandum with the co-ordination committee of the students’ unions to furnish the demands of the student body within September 5, 2013.

The demands included appointment of regular Principals, improvement of toilets facilities of the colleges, provision of sufficient amount of electricity using solar plates, provision of adequate book’s related to the syllabus in the college libraries and to provide internet facilities in the libraries, he said.        

However, there has been no such action taken up by the concern departments and the demands have remained as it is, he said.

The student body further demanded for the dismissal of Additional Director for Higher Education, RK Yaiskul.
