Food Security Bill discussion at Ukhrul

IMPHAL, August 6:Speaking at the ‘One day state level (ST) youth convention & discussion on Food Security Bill, 2013’ at Ukhrul Town Hall today, Dy Chief Minister Gaikhangamsaid that the opposition parties will have nothing to say with the implementation of the National Food Security Ordinance, 2013 by the present government under the leadership of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

The function was organized by Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC).

Dy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who is also the president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee further said under the National Food Security Ordinance, 2013, 5 Kg of rice will be provided to every individual every month at the rate of only Rs 3 per Kg, wheat will be provided at the rate of only Rs 2 per Kg and coarse grains at the rate of only Re one, he said.

The bill will cover 75 percent of the rural population and 50 percent of urban population, he said.

The Congress workers will take up every possible step to create awareness among the people about the policy programs taken up by the government including this bill and others like MGNREGS, he said.    

Congress frontal organizations will organize similar meetings at district level and booth level to create awareness about the policy programs, he said.

Other who spoke at the function include Dy Speaker Preshaw Shimray, MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, MPYCC president Md Amir Hussain and vice president Yumkham Roso, Ukhrul A/C MPCC member Alfred Kanngam, IYC, Manipur State secretary in charge Deepika Pandey and IYC president Mahendran.
