MOREH, August 17: The Information Centre for Hill Areas, Manipur (ICHAM) along with village authorities and other civil society organizations will be conducting an inspection in the areas which have been affected by the international border fencing.

ICHAM will urge the state government to turn the Cabinet decision, to conduct resurvey at 15 villages in Chandel district and 28 villages in Ukhrul district to clear out the territorial dispute, into action.

This was informed to the media during a press meet held today participated by ICHAM members, village chiefs and others.

On the other hand, the Haolenphai village chief said that the pillar No 76 which comes under Haolenphai village area was replaced by a pillar stone marked as pillar no 23 by Myanmar authorities who further asked the villagers to leave the place at once.

However, Assam Rifles placed a red flag at the said pillar to stop the Myanmar authorities from taking up further steps. But the said flag has been taken away by the Myanmar authorities, he added.

There is suspicion that Choro village might be given away to Myanmar, said the village chief.

He appealed to protect the village while saying that the village is a part of Manipur.

ICHAM president said that a memorandum will be submitted in regard to this issue to the central and state government at the earliest.

Tamil Sangam general secretary, KBS Maniam said that border pillar number 78 is missing since a long time back and urged the government to look into the matter.
