IMPHAL, August 4: State police continue to tighten up security measures ahead of the Independence Day celebration.
Imphal East district police today conducted search operations at Lambulane and Andro Parking areas under Porompat police station today at around 3 pm.
Altogether 31 persons who have failed to provide proper verification proof were picked up by the police and handed over to Porompat police station for proper verification.
Speaking to the media, SDPO RK Khomdon said that the search operations were conducted as a precautionary measure ahead of Independent Day celebration in the state.
Meanwhile, the Bishnupur District police commandos team also conducted frisking and checking operation at Bishnupur Bazaar.
A police source has said that a pedestrian was picked up for verification on suspicion of being a UG cadre.
The police suspicion came out to be true with the youth being verified as a cadre of the banned outfit KYKL and working in the finance section, informed the police source.
The apprehended has been identified as one Nahakpam Geetchandra alias Geet (41), son of N Kunjamani Singh, a resident of Maibam Chingning Makha Leikai under Nambol police station.
The police recovered a mobile handset from his possession.
A preliminary interrogation revealed Gitchandra had collected monetary demands from bus associations, Pradhans and Government Departments and had frequented Moreh in order to send the collected money to the outfit.
