Independence Day celebrated at district headquarters

IMPHAL, August 16: A solemn celebration of the 67th Independence Day was held at the school ground of the Maha Union Higher Secondary School, Chandel district. The Deputy Commissioner of the district, Th Chitaranjan Singh was the chief guest of the function.

The DC hoisted the National flag.

The chief guest further inspected the march past attended by a total of 36 contingents including those from ex-servicemen of 8 Bn Manipur Riffles, police, colleges and schools.

The main highlight of the day was the cultural performances conducted by different cultural troupes.

The assistant commandant of the 8 Bn Manipur Riffles, Soram Ingo Singh was the parade commander of the march past.

During the function, the DC said that a new planning strategy for development of the district has been completed and will be implemented soon.

He further continued that the construction of Mini Secretariat at district headquarters and CJM Court at Moreh are complete.

These buildings will be inaugurated at the earliest possible, he added.

Later on, the Deputy Commissioner distributed prizes to the position holders of March Pass contingent and cultural troupes. A friendly football match between DC 11 and SP 11 also took place.

A similar function for the celebration of 67th Independence Day of the country was also held at the Mini Secretariat Complex of Bishnupur district. The Deputy Commissioner of the district, Aleng Shimray hoisted the National flag while SDPO of the district, Hopeson Sapam was parade commander. A total of 13 contingents including civil police, home guard, VDF, students took part in the function.

The chief guest of the function said that the developmental program of the district especially the national flagship programs are advancing to its goal while the law and order situation are also improving.

During the function, different cultural troupes displayed their performances and certificates to the officials of outstanding achievement were also distributed.

The 67th Independence Day was also celebrated today at the Mini Secretariat Complex, DC`s Office, Thoubal.

T Ranjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal hoisted the national flag and received salutes given by 29 parade contingents commanded by N Jatin Singh MPS, Dy. SP, CDO/Thoubal.

Speaking on the occasion, T Ranjit Singh highlighted the various achievements made by the District Administration, Thoubal and stated that it was our duty to pay homage to the leaders and soldiers who struggled and sacrificed their lives for the independence of our country. He also appealed to all to work for peace and development in the district.

Altogether 72 people including Dr AK Jhalajit Singh, SP, Thoubal were given meritorious awards by the Chief Guest for their outstanding services and performance. Various cultural programs and a Band Display by 15th Assam Rifles were also held on the occasion.

Elected members of Zilla Parishad and Gram Panchayats, high ranking civil and police officials of the district, school children and public participated in the celebration.

In Imphal East district, the Independence Day 2013 was celebrated in a befitting manner at the district headquarters of Imphal East Porompat at 7:45 am. RK Dinesh Singh Deputy Commissioner of the district hoisted the national flag accompanied with the national anthem. All the district level officers including civil police, staff and invitees participated the function.

As a part of the 67th Independence Day of India, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee celebrated Independence Day of the Country at the Congress Bhavan. During the function, dy chief minister Gaikhangam, the president of the MPCC hoisted the national flag in the presence of the chief minister O Ibobi Singh and other Congress MLAs.
