MAPC observes World Photography Day

IMPHAL, August 19: The Manipur Amateur Photo Club, MAPC today observed the “World Photography Day” at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul attended by Speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly P Lokeshwor, Transport & Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, MLA Saikot, TN Haokip, former MLA Bijoy Koijam, president AMWJU W Shamjai and president MAPC Y Laba as chief guest, guests of honour and president respectively.

The observation was attended by around 90 individuals including family members of departed eminent photographers of the state.

Speaking at the function, W Shamjai appealed to the Ministers and MLAs not to take reporters and correspondents according to their personal contact, but to do it through the official channel of DIPR during official tours.

Speaking at the function, Bijoy Koijam said that before the arrival of the photojournalists wave in the state, people were unable of the importance of the photographers as photography was seen to be centred around on documenting social events like marriages and other functions.

The ex-MLA further suggested for a photo competition to be held every year in the state for photo journalists and further continued that he would love to institute the prize for the competition in the memory of his late father.

Manipur Assembly Speaker Th. Lokeshwor said the media houses in the state should deter from publishing news or photographs which could create unwanted problems in the state.

President of the MAPC, Yambem Laba said that the club would like to be a partner of the government organised Sangai Festival.
