Mass rally cum public meeting on crime against humanity seeks GoI attention and intervention

SENAPATI, August 29: In view of the rising crime against humanity, particularly against women and girls in the state, the Maria-Bianchi Social Care Ministry (MBSCM) in association with Senapati-Karong Area Women Welfare Association (SKAWWA), CBOs, NGOs, POs and other civil society organizations organized a mass rally and public meeting today at Senapati.

The mass rally was flagged off by Tamai ex MLA N Awangbow Newmai.

The rally which was participated by around 100 women started from Senapati village ground and proceeded towards Toll Gate and ended at Public ground where a public meeting was held.

Condemning the increase in crimes, the public meeting expressed concern over the spurt in sexual assault, domestic violence, rape and trafficking in spite of having in place several laws to prevent such incidents.

Further, the public meeting resolved to urge the state government to upgrade the forensic department/laboratory in the state as well as to set up a judicial court and morgue in every district particularly in the Hill districts of the state to tackle such crimes and cases faster.

The public meeting also pointed out that all religious/faith institutions, educational institutions, political institutions/administrations including their respective women organizations and fellowships develop and articulate a “theology of womenhood” whereby women are honoured and respected and given due recognition as equal partners in all matters.

The public meeting was attended by NPO vice president Adakho, Naga Women Union Manipur former vice president Madame Athai and Brook Dale Hr Sec School, Senapati principal John, Women Action for Development(WAD) secretary Soibita, Poumei Women advisor Deliala Pao, UNM-M secretary U Nabakishwor, New Life Foundation secretary L Pishak and others besides the general public.

A memorandum signed by Maria-Bianchi Social Care Ministry secretary Elizabeth Rang, Senapati Karong Area Women Welfare Association president D Dailuru, Domestic Violence Survival Group president Lily and Farmers’ Club president Kala has been submitted to Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.

A copy of the same representation has also been submitted to AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Governor Ashwani Kumar Mass rally cum public meeting on crime against humanity seeks GoI attention and intervention and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.

The lengthy representation while addressing the rapid radical increase in crime against humanity particularly women and girls and data of crimes committed in the year 2011-2013 June as well as governments failure to deliver justice to the culprits who committed such crimes put 11 points of Charter of Demands before the Government of India to implement immediately to shun such crimes and violence.
