IMPHAL, August 16: The Manipuri Students’ Federation today organized the 9th Students’ Martyrdom under the theme “To excel: Right to life” and also to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of the “Manipur’s Human Torch”, Pebam Chittaranjan Mangang.
The student body also paid floral tributes to a photo of (L) Pebam Chittaranjan Mangang at the Takhellambam Youth Club, Thakhellambam leikai in the morning.
Around 500 students of different schools, colleges along with meira paibis, members of civil society organizations, students’ organization attended the floral tribute.
A function was also held in memory of the “Manipur’s Human Torch” was also held at THAU ground in the afternoon.
After the floral tribute, a rally was also taken out from the Takhellambam Leikai to THAU ground where a public meeting was held.
At the function, Prof R K Hemakumar Singh, Dean of Students’ Welfare Manipur University; Longjam Umakanta Meitei, president Manipur States’ Federation & convenor, Joint Student’s Co-ordination Committee (JSCC); advocate Khaidem Mani, president All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA); Wangkhemcha Samjai, president All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) and Dr Y Mani Khuman, president All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) as chief guest, president and guests of honour, respectively.
Around 1200 individuals attended the function.
As part of the function, a blood donation camp was also conducted at the Fitness & Health Care, THAU with 52 donors turning up.
Speaking at the function, W Samjai said that if it is for the land, than one must sacrifice.
He further said that first we have to correct the wrongs of the government. Today’s youth need a leader who could guide them, he said.
All civil society organizations, meira paibis, student bodies need to join hands in the fight against AFSPA, he said.
AFSPA has not only affected the civillians, but it has also affected the journalists community he said, before adding that today it is not only AFSPA, but differences amongst the people, which has affected the state.
Speaking at the function, Dr Y Mani Khuman said that youths carry the hopes of the society.
The problem of the society should be faced by the youth, so they need hard work, he said and further added that in order to keep a dynamic social order in the society, people have to face the problem without violence and in a democratically way, he added.
He further said that there will be no development in Manipur until and unless AFSPA is repealed.
Meanwhile, family members of Pebam Chittaranjan and volunteers of the student body today presented sweets and clothes to the children of Punya Centre Home for Girls, Chingmeirong.
The Manipuri Students’ Federation, Jiribam branch today observed the students’ martyrdom in memory of (L) P Chittaranjan at the auditorium of the Jiribam Higher Secondary School.
As part of the function, a patriotic song competition and a silent rally were also organized with people for the rally gathering at the campus of the school.
The students and people attending the function paid floral tributes to a photo of (L) P Chittaranjan.
The main function was attended by S Sushila Devi, president of All Jiribam meira paibi, M Nilkamal Singh, president of Manipuri Students’ Federation, Jiribam branch, M Shyamkumar Singh, ex-president MSF Jiribam, Y Sanjit Singh AMSU, Jiribam district committee and M Hemanta Singh, president JDO as chief guest, president, and guests of honour respectively.
Prizes were distributed to the position holders of the patriotic song competition in which 35 participants took part.
