IMPHAL, August 18: Heirok part II Gram Panchayat Pradhan Thokcham Dhamendra Singh along with farmers watered the paddy fields of around three thousand hectares in Heirok part II of Thoubal district, which were facing water scarcity due to bad management of irrigation system.
The Padhan restored the irrigation system at Loklaobung canal with the help of an excavator thereby availing abundance of water there.
A farmer said that while other districts are facing problems due to overflowing of water, the paddy fields in Heirok part II are facing water scarcity due to inundation of the canal.
He further said that no elected leaders have never shown any concern for the last so many years in this regard.
The farmer also lauded the steps taken up by the Pradhan of watering the dry fields by clearing the block irrigation system at the Loklaobung canal.
The Pradhan speaking to media said that there is a shortage of fertilizers in the market. In addition to this, the farmers are facing shortage of water which could result in shortage of paddy production.
