IMPHAL, August 30: Owing to the incessant rain during the month of July and August, a devastating flood has been caused affecting nearly 840 hectares of arable land in the “Almost all the standing crops were destroyed irreparably. Khoupum valley is a low-lying areas surrounded by hills on all the sides. This has led to accumulation of waters from the surrounding hills on the valley,’’ it informed.
The release further expressed serious concern over the likelihood of famine in the months to come, if proper and immediate intervention measures are not taken up timely by the concerned authority and fervently appealed the Agriculture Department and media house to depute its officials for damage assessment and focus the gravity of the situation in Khoupum Valley at the earliest so as to ameliorate the grievances of the affected farmers.
