IMPHAL, August 7: The Supreme Court of India has yesterday instructed the state government to submit the judicial inquiry reports of 33 cases including that of the six cases taken up by the Supreme Court appointed Commission on Extrajudicial Killing, Manipur by September 10 last, said Human Rights Alert Director Babloo Loitongbam.

Speaking to media persons at a press conference at the HRA office today, he said the family members of the victims of the six cases taken up by the Supreme Court had to return home after the first hearing of the cases held yesterday was adjourned by a double bench of the Supreme Court after the advocate representing the National Human Rights Commission failed to be present.

The Court has further scheduled the next hearing of the case on September 17, he said.

Advocate Basanta who has been assisting the advocate of the petitioners of the case told the media persons that the reports filed by the state and central governments are the same except for the state appealing for the cases to be handed over to the CID, while the centre has appealed for the cases to be handed over to the CBI.

The petitioners are however appealing for the recommending to hand over the case to an independent body which could bring transparency to the cases without any influence from both the state and central governments, he said.

The state government even though has already filed a report on the six cases, is yet to establish the proper identities of the victims of the cases as is evident from the fact that the victim in case no 2 identified as Khunbongmayum Orsonjit who was a bachelor has been stated as a married individual with a child by the state in its affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, he said.

The affidavit was also signed by Principal Secretary Home, he said.

On the contrary to the affidavit signed by the Principal Secretary Home, Orsonjit was a 19 year old bachelor when he was shot dead in an alleged encounter, he said.

Speaking to media persons, the mother of (L) K Orsonjit said that the affidavit is in total disregard of her deceased son and the state government has submitted false statement to the Supreme Court. She has further demanded clarification on the wrong affidavit submitted by the government at the earliest.
