SoO reducing signatory outfits to `punching bags`: ZRO

LAMKA, August 19: The Zomi Re-unification organization has today come out strongly against the Assam Rifles alleging the 46th Bn, Assam Rifles of conducting a raid at the private residence of the 2nd in command of town of the Zomi Revolutionary Army during the intervening night of August 17-18, last in a press statement.

The statement has said that the ZRO strongly condemns the “unprovoked and unwarranted raid” carried out by the 46 Bn, Assam Rifles at the private residence.

It further alleged that during the raid, one cadre of ZRA was arrested along with two AK-56, eight hand grenades, 250 ammunitions and five magazines. The press release also said that groups signing Suspension of Operation (SoO) have become an easy prey and a ‘punching bag’ for the security forces and further alleged that, the letter and spirit of SoO have been reduced to a ‘beast of burden’ for SoO signatories.

The press release also claimed the raiding party under the command of Maj Vikash Kundu “looted more than Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, one mobile handset, one digital camera, one two cell Torchlight battery, one Khukri before forcing the parents of the second-in-command to sign a blank paper at gun-point.”

The looters also took away 150 grams of Heroin, 500 strips of Spasmo Proxivon (SP) and 480 strips of Relepen (SP) which were seized by the ZRA from drug peddlers awaiting to be reduced to ashes, the statement signed by the outfit’s s/s director ministry of information & public relations Mang Zomi mentioned.
