IMPHAL, August 6: The Asian Development Bank has in principle agreed to give Rs 1800 crore to the state government for the construction and repairing of roads in the state including the national highways passing along the state.
This announcement was made by Works Minister Dr Ratankumar Singh this afternoon at his office chamber during a press meet.
The Minister further said that ADB will be releasing the said amount under the South Asia Sub-Regional Economic Project.
Imphal-Tupul Road, Imphal-Mayang Imphal Road, Imphal-Bishnupur Road, Imphal-Thoubal Road, and Imphal-Kasom Khullen Road will be repaired/constructed under this project and most of the preparations have been finalised, he said.
To begin with the work, related documents will be signed in the coming October month between the state government and ADB officials, the Minister said.
In view of the development, a meeting was held yesterday presided by the Chief Minister where it was resolved to approach ADB with a proposal to repair the roads from Imphal to Wangjing, Heirok, Khudengthabi etc which are also a part of National Highway 2, he said.
The meeting further resolved to propose ADB for funding to repair roads from Imphal to Kangchup, Tamenglong, Tousem, Halflong, Ukhrul, Kamjong, Kongkhang Thana, Moirang Wangoo and roads from Churachandpur to Behiang, he added.
