IMPHAL, August 2: Angered by a monetary demand of Rs 30 lakh and subsequent locking of Ram Krishna Higher Secondary, Ghari by unknown persons, students along with their guardians and teaching and non teaching staffs of the school staged a sit in protest at Ghari Makha Leikai community hall today.

Speaking to the media, a teacher of the school said that in the first week of July, the school’s principal Jawan received a phone call from an unknown person who identified himself as a member of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman group.

He was asking whether they had received a demand letter of Rs 30 lakh served by their group at the school, the teacher said.

However, when the Principal replied in the negative, the unknown person served a demand of Rs 30 lakh and demanded to pay up at the earliest or face a bomb, the teacher added.

The unknown person who claimed to be a cadre of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman group continued to threaten the school’s Principal by making frequent phone calls, the teacher continued.

Tired of receiving the threat calls, the Principal changed his cell number, the teacher said.

But yesterday around mid-night, the main gate of the school was found locked by some unknown persons, the teacher said.

Meanwhile, students of the school during the demonstration appealed to make educational institutes free from such acts.

The students strongly protested against monetary demands made on educational institutes and threatening them with bombs as an act of terrorism.

Meira Paibis of Ghari Makha Leikai, Manipur Student Federation (MSF) volunteers along with the guardians later broke open the lock and entered the school.
