KANGPOKPI, August 20: The Students’ Union Presidency College Motbung set off its proposed strike by closing down the college and staging a sit-in protest in front of the college gate today to lodge their protest against the non-payment of Post Matric Scholarships 2012-13 to more than 200 ST students of the college.

In the meantime, the Students’ Union has taken a stand against the transfer of teaching staff from the college during the academic session 2013-14 and demanded replacement of a lecturer for Hindi teacher who recently transferred to DM. College, Imphal.

The students’ union along with the students who had not received the Post Matric Scholarship 2012-13 closed down the College at around 9:30 am and staged a sit-in in front of the college gate.

Nemneithem Kipgen, Secretary of the Students’ Union PCM while speaking on the sidelines of the stir said, “The concerned authority compels us to take such an extreme step and we will go ahead and intensify our stir till our demands are fulfilled.”

She continued, “We demand immediate release of pending Post Scholarships 2012-13 for ST students of the college”, while adding that the Students’ Union is seeking an apology from the TD& Hills Director for `insulting the student body and showing horrendous attitude towards the College and the Students’ Union`.

Nemneithem Kipgen further said that the College will remain closed till their demands are meted out satisfactorily while warning to intensify their stir, adding that the government and the concerned authority should bear all responsibilities if any problematic incidents arise out of the stir.
