IMPHAL, August 19: Three persons were arrested along with the 550 bottles of Lupicof Syrup containing Codeine Phosphate by a team of Narcotic Affairs Border along with a police team today at around 11.45am from Hayel Labuk Mayai Leikai under Thoubal district.
The arrested persons along with the seized cough syrup were paraded before media persons at the office of Narcotic Affair Border (NAB).
Speaking to the media, Officer In Charge NAB RK Bikramjit said, acting on a specific information that some illegal drug substances are being hidden at Hayel Labuk area under Thoubal Police station, a joint team under the supervision of S Gautam Superintendent of Police NAB rushed to the Hayel Labuk area and conducted search operation.
During the said operation, the team saw three local Muslim youths carrying two fully packed yellow gunny bags and hastily moving at Hayel Labuk Mayai Leikai.
The combined team of police personal and the NAB immediately surrounded the three and detained them at the spot, he said. On checking the gunny bags, the team found 550 bottles of LUPICOF cough syrup containing Codeine Phosphate IP 10 mg were found without any valid documents, he said
The three have been identified as Md Najim Khan alias Thethe (28), son of (L) Md Amjad Ali of Hayel Labuk Mayai Leikai; Md Riyas Khan (24), son of Md Ibomcha of Hayel Labuk Mayai Leikai and Md Ayas Khan alias Boycha, (19), son of Md Haydar Khan of Hayel Labuk Maning Leikai.
A case has been taken up against the three arrested person for further investigations.
