IMPHAL, July 17: Ukhrul Autonomous District Council, Chairperson John Raleng had submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister urging against the reported action of the state and the central government to cede away Choro village in Ukhrul district to Myanmar in exchange of some land from Myanmar.

A similar memorandum to the one sent to the Union Home Minister on August 22 was also reportedly submitted to the state Chief Minister last month in July. The memorandum as in the earlier one, has highlighted that since time immemorial, Choro village has been a hill house tax paying village of Ukhrul district in Manipur.

It is also mentioned in the memorandum that the people of the village have been safeguarding the territory of the land.

The ADC had further highlighted that the village, after being left out when Kabaw Valley was gifted away to Myanmar by India, had been existing as an Indian village.

Considering all the historical facts and for the peaceful co-existence of the people, the government should immediately stop the process of giving away Choro village to Myanmar in exchange of some land from Myanmar in Moreh, the memorandum urged.

Meanwhile, it is also learnt that copies of the memorandum signed by the ADC Ukhrul Chairperson John Raleng  have also been submitted to the Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha both from the Inner and Outer constituencies  of Manipur and the Principal Secretary (Home) government of Manipur who is also the chairperson of the state government constituted Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing Committee.
